I can hear it -- I am exactly 25

Clicking the link below will produce a tone that is generally only heard by people under the age of 25. It has been used as a deterrent device to keep teenagers from loitering in malls and shops, and sounds similar to a buzzing mosquito. Typically the longer you listen to it, the more annoying it gets.

Can you hear it? I'd like to see if the cutoff is around 25 like it claims. Please comment whether you can hear it and whether you are older than, younger than, or exactly 25.

I can hear it, I am 23 - but I don't know if I could pick it up if I wasn't consciously thinking about it

Hey Thad - I just conducted a scientific experiment. I clicked on the link and was waiting to hear something. I couldn't hear anything. In the meantime, Philip was in the same room, but not looking at my computer and put his only useful hand over his ear (the other one is in a sling) and cried out, "Mom, what is that noise?" It was crazy. But, at least in our case true. BTW Phil is much younger than 25 and I am a little bit older.

I can totally hear it. It is the same sound that I hear inside the BYU creamery everytime I go in there. Which makes my teeth grind.

I turned it on in the computer lab and everyone nearby could hear it. I can still hear it even though it's off! I'm going to do some Matlab analysis on it

Your signal there is 14994Hz with a standard deviation of around 1-2Hz in the frequency domain and wavers slightly at rate of 877Hz in the time domain. Woot!

I wouldn't say I hear it as much as I feel it piercing my brains, but yes, it definitely doesn't go unnoticed by me. Age: 29
