Open Question: The Physics of the Force

If Luke could psychically connect with Leia because (spoiler) they're related, how come Vader didn't recognize Leia as his daughter when he blew up Alderaan?

Remember, the Force works just as well for the dark side. It's NOT analogous to the Holy Ghost.

obviously, he wanted to kill Leia to keep her from accidentally kissing her brother...or something.

He had on that HUGE helmet. It would be really hard to see anyone through that.

Let me put on my geek cap...

He could feel the force was strong with her, but that didn't tell him she was his daughter. Same as when he was chasing Luke through the Death Star trenches in Episode IV...he knew the force was strong with the pilot in the X-Wing, but he didn't realize he was chasing-down his kid. Later when he learned the pilot's name was Skywalker, I think, is when he "reached out with the force" that gleaned that tidbit of info.

And for your holy ghost analogy, you can feel the spirit, but if you don't ask the right questions you may not know what you're feeling.

Yeah, you're probably right. The Force isn't like wolframalpha.com that just dumps information into your lap. It's more subtle, waiting for you to probe deeper before it yields it's delicious creamy filling.
